Pseudo-Left 'Hero' And War Criminal Julian Assange Takes A Deserved Lashing.

It's too bloody late, of course, but still.

In the matter of Amnesty International, the Campaign for Innocent Victims in Conflict, the Open Society Institute, the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission and the Kabul office of the International Crisis Group Versus the WikiLeaks "hero" Julian Assange:

We have seen the negative, sometimes deadly ramifications for those Afghans identified as working for or sympathizing with international forces. We strongly urge your volunteers and staff to analyze all documents to ensure that those containing identifying information are taken down or redacted.

Here's how the foppish, arrogant bastard responded: I'm very busy and have no time to deal with people who prefer to do nothing but cover their asses. If Amnesty does nothing I shall issue a press release highlighting its refusal.

The cheek of it. Recklessly endanger the lives of scores of the most brave and innocent of our Afghan comrades, all for the juvenile purpose of sticking it to the man, and then demand Amnesty International help clean up the damage he's caused by his own unpardonable negligence and narcissism. Refuse, the toff warns, and "I shall issue a press release."

Julian Assange may well be a hero to the bourgeois left in the rich countries of the world, but he is a vile enemy of the people. He deserves no mercy for what he has done. He has exposed the bravest and most vulnerable of forward-thinking Afghans to retributive assassination by the Taliban and other counter-revolutionary elements in Afghanistan.

The UN today reports a near doubling of the Taliban's use of assassinations to terrorize Afghans who would work for their own government or cooperate with the institutions of the international community in their country. Assassinations averaged 3.6 a week last year. In May and June this year assassinations skyrocketed to an average 18 a week. Teachers, doctors, tribal elders, community leaders, provincial and district officials have all been targeted.

No excuses for Assange. He is an accessory to the terror that persists in oppressing the Afghan people and in preventing the workers of Afghanistan, by the most savage means imaginable, from the lawful exercise of their most fundamental rights. He is a willing accomplice in the subjugation and brutalization of the people. He is guilty.

No more yesbuttery. No more indulgence. No tolerance, no clemency, no mercy.

Assange is a vandal; simply a destroyer.

Excuse me, Terry, but how is Assange a 'war criminal'? If it's because he's accidentally endangered the lives of some Afghans who work with the central govt or NATO (on the other hand the good that's come out of the leak outweighs this unfortunate consequence considerably), then by such logic NATO and Afghan soldiers who accidentally kill Afghan civilians are war criminals as well.

Accidentally endangered the lives of some Afghans?

Reckless endangerment. Criminal negligence.

And no, whatever good your "hero" Assange has done for comfortable people like yourself is not outweighted by the mortal harm he has caused innocent Afghans who risk their lives for the cause of progress in their country. You simply aren't that important, Aymenn.

And don't lecture me about logic. By your twisted logic, NATO and Afghan soldiers who accidentally kill Afghan civilians should be regarded as "heroes" in the same way you imagine Assange to be a hero.

A bit of "collatoral damage, so long as the Wikileaks capter can be made to make the Yanks look bad, doesn't bother you at all. That's how morally bankrupt you are.

You and the thousands of whining equivalence-mongers in the rich countries of the world mean mean less to progess and freedom - meman less to me - than a single Afghan schoolteacher. I'd happily trade 10,000 of you for one of them.

Piss off.

To begin with, Terry, Assange has in fact done nothing for me, but has done an immense favour for the interests of the region as a whole. The US is reconsidering its relation with the Pakistani military and intelligence as a result. That's a welcome change, is it not? This is why I regard Assange as a hero, even though he should, as you say, have ensured not to endanger the lives of any Afghans: if any Afghan civilians are killed as a result of the leak, he should pay compensation. Contrary to what you might think, I don't believe NATO forces intend to kill Afghan civilians (unlike the Taliban), nor do they have any sinister intentions. So please don't accuse me of being an ''equivalence monger''.

The key point is: are NATO airstrikes and other military operations weakening the Taliban and thereby allowing Afghanistan to become more secure and hence for more reconstruction? No. Can they therefore be justified when they often accidentally endanger the lives of Afghan civilians, sometimes recklessly so? No. In fact, the Taliban is only gaining ground. We have been through the reasons for this before.

And so, ultimately, the change in strategy that has a high probability of occurring would do much more for progress, freedom and the Afghan schoolteachers you speak of.

Finally, there's really no need for personal insult here in telling me to ''p*** off''.

Aymenn:

Don't tell me what "the issue" is here.

You're the idiot who called Julian Assange hero, then dismissed any deaths he might have caused as merely collatoral damage, and then tried to cover your tracks with the fiction that it's all to the good because the documents Assange has leaked will change US policy towards Pakistan (to suit your tastes, no doubt).

Don't tell me when and whether there is a need to tell you to piss off, either.

You're a disgrace.

Where to begin, Terry?

'then dismissed any deaths he might have caused as merely collatoral (sic) damage'

I did no such thing. If I had such a dismissive attitude, I would not call on Assange to provide compensation if it could be proven that the Taliban was able to find a suspected 'collaborator' through Wikileaks. What's done is done, Terry. On the contrary, you are the one who does not care in the slightest about Afghan civilian deaths caused by NATO and other Afghan security forces. I care about ALL Afghan civilian deaths, whereas you are quite selective in your outrage.

'the fiction that it's all to the good because the documents Assange has leaked will change US policy towards Pakistan (to suit your tastes, no doubt).'

So suit my 'tastes'? What are my 'tastes' Terry? Why is hoping for a change in US policy towards the Pakistani military and intelligence a bad thing when it could well weaken the Taliban insurgency and thereby not only reduce the threat to all of South Asia but also make Afghanistan safer (and allowing for a safe withdrawal)? If I were really so apathetic about Afghans, I could simply be like the appalling 'Stop the War Coalition' and call for an immediate withdrawal and 'leave Afghanistan to rot', so to speak. By the way, what Assange has done is overall for the better: if you want an analogy, compare it to the Allied bombing of France in WW2 to liberate it from the Nazis.

'You're a disgrace'

Coming from you, I take being called an 'idiot' and a 'disgrace' a compliment. Your self-righteousness and your propensity to smear all those who do not conform to your line are noteworthy.

In your own words, Aymenn, here`s how you wrote off the fate of Afghans "accidentally endangered"
by Assange: ". . . on the other hand the good that's come out of the leak outweighs this unfortunate consequence considerably."

That is disgusting. That is disgraceful. And the "good" you see coming out of this is the benefit you derive from it in the way you can put it to use in your hobbyhorse proposition that the way forward is to have the US slobber on certain Pakistani slippers more fervently.

You compound your disgrace now with this, 'oh well, Assange can pay compensation' for any Afghans that die being put to his self-indulgent, self-congratulating service. He claims he doesn't even have the time or the inclination or the resources to vet the leaks properly so as not to endanger Afghan lives.

Now you've got the nerve to tell me I don't care about Afghan civilian deaths caused by NATO and other Afghan security forces. That I'm selective in my outrage.

Disgusting.

How, exactly, did he endanger anyone when all of the names are censored? I have been reading the leaks all day and all names are censored... I haven't found a single name in here yet...

Granted, IF he did endanger anyone it isn't a good thing at all and probably could have been prevented with a more tactful release... But I cannot find merit yet to the idea that he endangered anyone.

In the case that no lives were endangered what so ever one could safely say he is in fact a Journalistic Hero...

The main things I am really concerned about are the murders of innocents that have been covered up by government officials... The entire idea that such a thing would be hidden from the public eye is a bit disturbing.

However... If lives truly are at stake here then he may have made a large mistake...But how about all the lives that were already lost and covered up?

"I have been reading the leaks all day and all names are censored. . ."

That's because you're reading the redacted versions, not the documents Wikileaks initially released.

It has been well documented that Assange requested the aid of the US State Department in redacting the names and other sensitive information present in the cables.

The US Government denied.

The newspapers are helping with the redacting - how many cables are presently online? 1947.

The US Government is at fault here, but no, lets just demonise WikiLeaks as to shift the focus of attention so nobody cares about what the cables reveal.

Depresso: You're the guy whose defence of Assange requires you to holler about "lying manipulative sluts" and "short-haired, female rights-crazed, pom-pom cunts girls," if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for dropping by. It helps expose just what moral cretins Assange and his cult followers really are.

Its called a cynical look on the situation. The facts in that case dont make sense. If he did do it then fair enough, I am more than happy to retract statements that i wrote based on the facts at the time.

How things stand it seems like they are just out for revenge. Jilted lovers. Their lawyers comment says it all, about how they didnt think it was rape "because they arent lawyers".

Also since when does a rape victim allow their attacker to stay with them and host events for them and saying nice things about them on twitter - only to then find out that he slept with someone else recently and then do a complete 360 on him?

It doesn't make sense to me.

Also, the way Julian has acted isnt that reckless, he gave them to newspapers to release responsibly, not do a massive dump online and make everyone and their uncle know informant names etc.

As for that list that contained 'sensitive targets' - what a load of crap. A quick search on google for important places will give you that. Snaked Venom, Nuclear Plants, Water Treatment Plants, Refineries and Pipelines? Hardly a 'top secret' list of highly kept state secrets.
