Canadian Universities Reject Anti-Israel Boycott

"The attempt of one group of scholars to stifle the views of another is an affront to modern society and must be condemned wherever it arises. Those British professors who have brought forward this shameful scheme ought to reflect on the example and consequence of the intolerance they are communicating to their students."

That's what our own Stephen Toope has to say about the ludicrous Boycott-Israel initiative. Stephen's the president of the University of British Columbia, and a well-respected human-rights activist.

Told you he was a good guy.

Keep an eye on these, and these, and for the real "peace movement" engaged in Israeli and Palestinian affairs, here's who you should be supporting.

I'm partial to McGill prez Heather Munroe-Blum's challenge:

"If you choose to isolate Israeli universities, you should add McGill to your boycott list"

Fuckin' A. Now that's solidarity.

Heres a thought how about Israel just pulls out of the occupied territories. How about Israel just respect the 67 borders, how about Israel builds their walls on their own land. How about Israel respect the democratic rights of all Israeli citizens not just Jews.
Imagine its just that simple withdraw.
Then we don't have to pick sides.
And life can go on,especially the lives of Palestinians.
Why don't you suggest the Ottawa Citizen send you to the occupied territories than you can write a store about true injustice.
Rather than be so concerned about what a handful of University students, and a few other obscure groups of no real consequence chose to argue about or not.Yawn..
We know anti-semitism and all, yawn. Its every where and no where at the same time.

Your joking - right? Life for the Palestinians will remain focused on Jew hatred backed by various Muslim regimes that don't give a damn about the Palestinians. Oh yes, the '67 borders - everyone remembers how peaceful the neighbourhood was back then.

Yeah I know Johnny B and Mark, the Palestinians are just evil out to kill all jews.
I guess they just can't get their heads around the logic that they to they vacate their lands so white people fleeing other white people from Europe can have a homeland.
Hell they already gave up most of it, but 22%,but even thats not "good " enough now those same white people want even more.
What does Poland in 46 have to do with anything,or the holocaust.
White europeans(you know the "superior" Europeans, who respect other people, all that enlighten history and values and all) unlike Arabs and Africans, orientals etc)
fucked up other white Europeans it was not the Palestinians.
You miss the point(as usual) I am not denying the holocaust, but than I also don't deny the American Indian holocaust,or the Armenian,or the massacres or any other number of human atrocities.
There is lot of discrimination,Jews are not the only to suffer, and in this day and age their not likely to face the discrimination or racism than say black,First Nation, gypsies etc etc etc etc
So get you head out of your ass and deal with the real questions related to human rights, racism and discrimination.

dirk buchholz: At least half the Jewish population of Israel are Sephardim. That is the result of the hundreds of thousands of them who fled Muslim states in North Africa and the Middle East in the forties and fifties. Hardly "white people".

The point is Mark. The holocaust was responsible for many Jew supporting the idea of Israeli and then emigrating there.
The fact of the matter is they were European Jews(white) fleeing other Europeans(white).
Arabs were forced of their lands to make room for white Europeans fleeing other white people.
Surly you are not going to state that the lands that now fall within the "borders" of Israel were unoccupied by an indigenous population.
Israeli was created by the League of Nations a org made up of white people(western Nation)the Arabs nor the local population were consulted that they would have to move on so white people could take their lands.
Arabs did not kill Jews with the regularity and seeming relish as white people.
All facts.....
And for christ sakes respond to the point being made.If Israeli truly wanted peace and security all they would have to do his withdraw to the 67 borders. They would not be building more settlements on occupied land, they would not be building their wall on even more occupied land.
If they truly respected the rights of all people Arab Israeli's would enjoy the same rights as Jewish Israeli's.
