"Support our comrades, always and everywhere"

I'm especially pleased to see that it's in Adbusters magazine that Max Dunbar is asking these questions. I've been asking the same sort of question myself lately (as in here, here and here).

Dunbar continues:

. . .We forget that most victims of Islamic zealotry are Muslims - from the bombings ordered by the cleric Sheik Abdullah bin Jabreen to the genital mutilation suffered by countless young women in the Islamic world. It shouldn't make the slightest difference that some of the fanatics also have a problem with Dubya. By supporting these fanatics, the left is backing the oppressor over the oppressed and the rich over the poor.

Read it all.

It's a welcome change from the usual Adbusters fantasies. Like, for example, this, under the heading "Why I Fight" and a picture of an insurgent-looking fellow in the Jan/Feb 2007 issue: "I fight because I can't stand your fucking arrogance. You promised us democracy, but you only brought us death and destruction. You bombed my village and turned my family into refugees, then you went around giving candy to our kids. What do you take us for? You Brits and Yankees have been pulling off coups and stealing our oil for over a hundred years, and you don't even remember any of it, do you? But I'll never forget the day you dragged my uncle away and shot him dead, just like that, for no reason. I've had enough of this. I'm going to keep fighting until your leaders are brought to justice." Are those the words of an Iraqi? No, they come from an American by the name of Jesse Zerger Nathan. One gets the impression that the elements in the left who "support the resistance" could use a good dose of Edward Said's Orientalism. I'm fine with either them reading it or them being clubbed over the head with it.

Apologies for that digression!

I totally agree with Max.What ever SWP and other such orgs do,does not surprise me in the least.
They are but a group of sectarian morons who would make a deal with the devil it got them more publicity or converts.

This says it some much more eloquently than I have been able to. Thanks!

Got some bad news for Max, this is not the first time in recent memory. The anti-globalisation movement failed to stop the spread of multi-nationals, call centers and utility companies, all that was achieved by the WTO whilst it was a going concern. Then the movement was used to shelter 1st world hobby farmers and agri-business by standing on the necks of every 3rd world subsistance peasent. The day the WTO collapsed was a proud day for both Tyson Meats and the anti-globalisation movement.
